Audi Factory Water Pumps are Plastic

We have seen many leaking water pumps in Audi and VWs over the years. The reason is a manufacturing choice they made: the pump and the thermostat assembly is made of plastic. Yes, it lasts more than the 48-month 48K miles in the factory warranty, but they'll generally fail around 70-80K miles.

The solution is to use a quality aftermarket replacement, like the ones manufactured by REIN or GRAF. You can see in the video how different the metal unit is from the factory one.

The job itself is pretty short but has its complexities, as the intake manifold needs to come out. Sensors need to be properly connected, along with lines to the block and the turbo.
