Follow along as we properly open the calipers with our scan tool to replace brake pads and rotors in an Audi. You'll gain an understanding of the work and parts involved, and why you need a specialist for it.
Brake service used to be so easy. Open the calipers, replace pads and rotors, you're done. Gravy work.
Not anymore. With today's high performance braking systems, you need special tools to service Audi brakes properly.
Operating tolerances in new braking systems are so tight that opening the calipers for service electronically is now a must, and needs to be done with an OEM tool or high-level scanner.
When you do Audi brake service, and if you are not aware of this fact (few non-Euro shops are), you retract the calipers manually to replace the pads. That ruins the emergency brake module beyond repair. A simple brake job now turns into an electronic module replacement - as you can imagine that's not cheap.
Additionally, you don't need to overpay at a dealer for brake service. We always recommend to 'Upgrade For Less'. Audi does not make brakes, so what you're getting at the dealer is a repackaged supplier product.
At CarHavn EuroTech, we use top quality Zimmerman zinc-coated discs and US-made Akebono brake pads that provide low-dust, no noise braking power. And last more.
Once the calipers are properly opened, we use our Zimmerman rotors and Akebono pads to complete the brake job.
Not only do they look pretty, they will outlast most combinations out there!
When doing the brake pads and rotors, we always check for wear/rust in the dust shields, and also the brake fluid.
A smooth braking Audi! We have done hundreds of brake jobs in Audis - and have never had a comeback or unsatisfied customer.
